Johnny Depp's and Amber Heard's Comic-Con panels were back-to-back and people are upset
Johnny Depp surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday when he showed up in full character for the Warner Bros. debut of the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The 55-year-old movie star came out dressed as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald, with a short, platinum-blond hairstyle and black coat, to cheering crowds. However, according to several attendees, before he actually appeared, his name elicited boos.
While the segment of the presentation went over well with 6,000 fans in the giant hall, many online found the timing in poor taste at a minimum, considering that Warner Bros. followed Depp’s dramatic Fantastic Beasts display by bringing out the cast of Aquaman — including Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, who cited domestic violence when the couple initially split.
Heard said nothing about his appearance, and there’s been no reporting about how the two were kept apart (or if they were).
Fans and media members reacted strongly to Depp’s appearance on social media.
Several journalists pointed out that WB employs both of the exes, and wondered how that worked, as well as how the studio made sure the two didn’t see each other on Saturday.
WB brought Johnny Depp out for the Fantastic Beasts panel (as a surprise!!!) immediately proceeding their Aquaman panel, featuring Amber Heard. That makes me nauseous.

So you're telling me that Warner Bros. knew Amber Heard was going to be at Comic-Con (obviously, she's the female lead in Aquaman) and they still had Johnny Depp, her abuser, come out for his movie? I need to shower.

The former couple privately settled their divorce case in August 2016.
The settlement ending the 15-month marriage came after highly publicized claims of domestic violence by Heard, then 30, and counterclaims of financial blackmailing by Depp.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile but always bound by love,” Depp and Heard said in a statement.
“Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
The statement said that Heard “will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity” and that there would no further public comment.
“I was as low as I believe I could have gotten,” Depp recently told Rolling Stone about his divorce. “The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave there with your eyes closed.’ I couldn’t take the pain every day.”
