John Wilson Directs Bon Iver’s ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’ Music Video — Watch
Documentary filmmaker John Wilson may have wrapped his whimsical eponymous HBO series “How To with John Wilson” in 2023, but the creator is back behind the camera for a new short film.
Wilson partnered with acclaimed musician Bon Iver for the music video “Everything Is Peaceful Love.” Bon Iver AKA Justin Vernon has been ingrained in cinema with iconic soundtracks for “Paper Towns,” “Place Beyond The Pines.”

“Everything Is Peaceful Love” begins with the filming of pets, then families, in the style of home video. Wilson shot and edited the short film.
“I knew what kind of record I wanted to make the day we made ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love.’ I always knew that would be the feeling I wanted to share first,” Vernon said in a press statement. “I wanted the video to just be people smiling uncontainably. Luckily, Eric Timothy Carlson suggested getting in touch with John Wilson from ‘How To with John Wilson,’ simply the most poignant and hilarious program in all of television. We were extremely fortunate that John liked the idea. He went out, shot a bunch of fun stuff, and edited it all to the song. It gives me what I want for this album, all in one video. The idea that happiness and joy are the highest form and the true buoyancy of survival, and even taking yourself less seriously could heal the world.”
“Everything Is Peaceful Love” is the lead single of “SABLE, fABLE,” the first Bon Iver album in six years. “SABLE, fABLE” will be released April 11 on Jagjaguwar. The record begins with the 2024 three-song “SABLE, EP,” and then gives way to a new nine-song saga “in which one person becomes two, darkness turns to salmon-colored beauty, and sadness transforms to unbridled joy,” according to the description.
“Where ‘SABLE,’ is a sparse and solitary reckoning with a pain that long-defined the past, ‘fABLE’ looks towards a vibrant future filled with light, purpose and possibility: a partner, new memories, perhaps a family,” the statement reads.
Vernon added, “‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’ gives me what I want for this album, all in one video. The idea that happiness and joy are the highest form and the true buoyancy of survival, and even taking yourself less seriously could heal the world.”
“How To with John Wilson” concluded with the critically acclaimed Season 3. The show started in 2020.
Wilson told IndieWire in 2023 that he viewed the series as a string of films.
“I feel like we made 18 really incredible movies over the course of the series,” Wilson said. “They happen to be around 28 minutes long, they happen to air weekly on HBO, but I always thought of it as movies more than TV even though we had the constraints of TV.”
He added as for his next plans, “I hope I’ll be able to make something this ambitious again. It’ll be interesting to see if I can surprise people.”
