John Oliver calls out 'aggressive' Trump campaign emails that claim supporters have 'ignored team Trump'
Sunday’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver examined the results of the 2020 elections, including the legal battles which the Trump campaign has waged in several states. While President-elect Joe Biden received more than 4 million more votes than President Trump, his campaign is questioning the validity of votes.
Litigation costs money, something the Trump campaign has been running low on for several months. The campaign is trying to raise the necessary funds to finance the lawsuits by reaching out to supporters.
“All these pointless lawsuits are clearly going to cost a lot of money, which is probably why the campaign has spent the last few days frantically trying to fundraise for them, emailing supporters in an increasingly aggressive manner,” said Oliver.
Oliver was able to obtain one of the emails, which read, “This is your FINAL NOTICE. So far, you've ignored all our emails asking you to join us in DEFENDING THE ELECTION. You've ignored team Trump, Eric, Lara, Don, the Vice President, AND you've even ignored the President of the United States.”
Oliver also highlighted the fine print, which states half of the money raised for legal defense will actually go towards paying off campaign debt. He believes that using the legal funds to pay off debt is the worst thing Trump has done to his supporters, aside from making them watch him dance at rallies.
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver airs Sundays at 11:00 p.m. on HBO.
