John Amos’ Daughter Learned of ‘Heartbreaking News’ About Dad’s Passing Through Media Reports

John Amos ' daughter, Shannon Amos, has revealed her father died last month, and she didn't know up until earlier this week, like everyone else.

On Tuesday, Shannon shared an Instagram post that included footage of her dancing with Amos while announcing in her caption that her family had just found out her father actually died on Aug. 21. News of Amos' death began circulating on Oct. 1, a full 45 days after he passed.

"I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on Aug. 21," Shannon captioned her post. "We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."

She continued, "This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free. My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you."

Shannon's brother, K.C. Amos, was the one who first announced that his father died . However, the relationship between the siblings had grown sour after they were engaged in a back-and-forth regarding their father's care this past year. Shannon got law enforcement involved and accused K.C. of "elder abuse and financial exploitation."

John Amos released a statement at the time through his publicist, in which he claimed he was doing just fine, despite being in the hospital for an undisclosed reason.
