Joe Cornish to Direct Universal Spy Thriller ‘Section 6′

Joe Cornish has been tapped to direct Universal’s “Section 6″ starring “Unbroken” star Jack O’Connell.
The search had been a long process for Universal after acquiring the spec in a heated bidding war where U paid in the seven figure range for the spec. Cornish beat out David MacKenzie and Tom Hooper for the job.
The project centers on the origins of the famous British intelligence agency that was founded during World War I, MI6.
Marc Platt will produce alongside Adam Siegel for Marc Platt Productions. Lawrence Grey will produce for Grey Matter Productions and Nira Park will produce for Big Talk Pictures.
Universal Pictures exec VP of production Jon Mone and director of development Sara Scott will oversee the project for the studio.
The CAA-repped Cornish is best known for directing the cult classic “Attack the Block” and also co-wrote the “Ant-Man” script that Edgar Wright is directing.
The Wrap first reported the news.
