Jodie Turner-Smith changes course in Joshua Jackson divorce with spousal support demand
Jodie Turner-Smith is demanding that her estranged husband Joshua Jackson pay her child and spousal support in their ongoing divorce.
The British actress, who filed for divorce in October 2023, made the request in a filing Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. Turner-Smith, 38, is asking the court to order Jackson to pay $8,543 per month in child support and $28,641 per month in spousal support, including retroactive payments dating back to the filing of Turner-Smith's divorce petition.
The "Bad Monkey" star also requested that Jackson, 46, pay attorney fees and the cost of a forensic accountant, which total $250,000.
In her original divorce petition, Turner-Smith asked the court to terminate rights for either party to claim spousal support following the divorce. However, the actress now claims Jackson's refusal to "negotiate reasonable" payments in the proceeding has resulted in mounting legal fees that warrant such payment.
Turner-Smith and Jackson, who met at singer Usher's 40th birthday party in 2018, wed in August 2019. The actors welcomed their daughter, Juno Rose Diana, in April 2020.
"All I have asked for since the inception of this matter is to be allowed to maintain the strong relationship between Juno and me while managing a full-time work schedule to support our daughter and myself," Turner-Smith said in the filing. "Josh has run up my attorney's fees and forensic accounting costs and has made this dissolution far more difficult than necessary."
USA TODAY has reached out to Jackson's attorney for comment.

Jodie Turner-Smith says Joshua Jackson promised to 'always' support her financially
Turner-Smith said in her court request that she and daughter Juno became accustomed to living a luxurious lifestyle thanks to Jackson's stature in the entertainment industry. The actress said this "high standard of living" included traveling to over 30 countries.
Jackson, a Critics Choice-nominated actor, has appeared in several hit TV series over the years such as WB's "Dawson's Creek," Fox's "Fringe" and Showtimes's "The Affair." He currently stars in ABC's "Doctor Odyssey," which premiered this fall.
Turner-Smith, whose acting career kicked off in 2013 (two decades after Jackson's began), alleged she does not receive as many job offers as her former spouse and that he's historically earned a higher income than her. The "Queen & Slim" star also accused Jackson of "dragging out" the divorce process, which has reportedly made it "nearly impossible" for Turner-Smith to support herself and their daughter.
"Josh promised to always support me and ensured me that I would not have to worry about financial security for our daughter if we ever separated because he said he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother," Turner-Smith said. "Now, he is reneging on that promise and using litigation tactics and delay to pressure me into agreeing to a settlement that is neither equitable nor has any legal foundation."
'I don't think it's a failure': Jodie Turner-Smith speaks out about Joshua Jackson divorce
Turner-Smith, who wants to purchase a home in Los Angeles, said Jackson continues to claim that the former couple's property in Topanga, California, is his sole property, despite the actress allegedly contributing $800,000 to the property's downpayment.
Jackson purportedly asked Turner-Smith to move out of their marital residence in L.A. at the time of their separation in September 2023, per the filing. Turner-Smith has since been living in rental homes in Los Angeles, Vancouver and London.
"I have not been able to maintain the status quo based on my earnings as I make and have always made less than Josh," Turner-Smith said. "Given my ever-changing work obligations, I am striving to provide a stable environment for our daughter so that she can enjoy the same standard of living with both parents."
A hearing on Turner-Smith's request is scheduled for March 20.
