Jim James – “Everything (The Universe)” (Feat. Lydia Burrell) & GZA – “The Spark”
Earlier this week, NASA and Apple tapped a bunch of artists to record songs for NASA’s Juno mission. The mission to Jupiter entails sending a 66-foot long unmanned spacecraft 484 million miles from Earth, and this Monday it will reach the most critical point in its journey since launching in 2011 by hopefully successfully getting into orbit around the solar system’s largest planet. We’ve already heard “Juno” from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and “I Love The USA” from Weezer.
Two more artists recruited were My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, and Wu-Tang Clan founding member GZA. James’ contribution is the Lydia Burrell-assisted “Everything (The Universe),” a chasmic, cosmic piece of minimalism perfect for a space expedition. GZA comes with “The Spark,” which is fittingly filled with celestial-themed bars over a synthed-out, piano-stabbed beat produced by Paul Ryder of Happy Mondays. Brad Paisley, Corinne Bailey Rae, QUI?, and Zoé also have songs for the project on the way. Listen to snippets of “The Spark” up top and “Everything (The Universe)” down bottom, or check out both songs in full at Apple Music.
