But that’s not all! Some of their appearances together at industry events, such as the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards in January 2024, fueled fan speculation about a potential off-screen romance. Plus, JAW was spotted rubbing Edebiri’s back at a Cub’s game earlier this year and I don’t know about you, but I don’t rub my friends' backs like that? But also… theater kids are close! So it’s a little confusing.
They also mutually gushed about one another in a May 2024 Vanity Fair cover story with Edebiri.
“We really enjoy each other in life, on camera and off camera," White told the magazine. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for her as a person, but also as an artist. And so I hope that sort of—that kind of thing shines through on camera between Carm and Syd."
“Syd is always able to...I don’t know, to deliver something different to Carmy, and she’s usually right,” he added. “And I guess I think Ayo is also usually right.”
For her part, Edebiri revealed that the work she and White do "invokes feelings of passion."
“Work can be a very intimate thing and a very personal thing and a very emotional thing, and I think when you’re also in industries that are creative or creative adjacent, I think there’s something that also invokes feelings of passion,” she said.
“Also, boy’s got some beautiful blue eyes. You know what I mean? Those are eyes you want to project onto.”

Are Carmy and Sydney going to hook up on The Bear?
Despite fan hopes for a romantic storyline between Carmy and Sydney, both White and Edebiri have firmly denied any plans for their characters to become romantically involved.
When recently asked if a romance between Carmy and Sydney had been considered for the upcoming season, both actors responded with an unfortunate but unanimous "no."
White elaborated, stating, "There was no talk in the rooms about any romantic implications."
So…probably not. But you know, it’s not over until the credits roll on the final episode of the series, OK?

The Bear has its third season premiere on June 26, 2024, on Hulu, and I, for one, am hoping this all turns around and they’re sucking face by the finale. JK! They can be whatever they wanna be – and it is honestly nice to see two attractive people being platonic and professional together, tbh – but there’s still part of me that craves this specific romance. Oh, well!
