Jennifer Garner's Daughter Violet Affleck Shares Health Update After Contracting a 'Post-Viral Condition'
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's daughter Violet is sharing her concerns regarding public mask availability.
The celebrity daughter, who recently graduated high school, delivered an impassioned speech at a regularly scheduled meeting of the LA County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, July 9.
Speaking about her experience with contracting a "post-viral condition"—which explains her inclination to wear protective face masks when stepping out as of late—she called for changes to be made to maintain public safety in relation to health.
"I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019," the 18-year-old revealed at the event. "I'm OK now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief."
A post-viral condition occurs after a viral infection, and possible symptoms include fatigue, lethargy, memory loss, inability to focus, and exhaustion, which can last for months following the initial infection, according to Mayo Clinic.
"One in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people's ability to work, see, move and even think," Violet continued during the board meeting, while further explaining that it has effected vulnerable communities at higher percentages nationwide.
The soon-to-be college student also urged for more "mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers."
"And mask mandates in county medical facilities," she added.
The young woman continued: "We must expand the availability of free tests and treatment and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason," before wrapping up, "They do not keep us safer, they make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together. Thank you."
In addition to their eldest child, Garner and Affleck—whom were married from 2005-2018—also share Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
