Janice Dickinson Weds Robert ‘Rocky’ Gerner — Get All the Details!
Janice Dickinson has been looking for her true love for a long time.
“It’s taken me half a century to find a soulmate and thanks to the universe my stars were aligned the day Rocky and I met,” the supermodel tells PEOPLE exclusively of Robert “Rocky” Gerner, whom she wed Saturday in the Los Angeles area. “He’s the best and he’s the brightest man I’ve ever met.”
Dickinson, 61, and Gerner, 70, were introduced by Gerner’s son, Robert Gerner Jr., who set them up for a blind date in 2012. By the end of that year, the two were engaged.
“I’ve been wanting to marry Jancie since about two weeks after I met her,” says Gerner. “We are a unit. I am so excited to really formalize this with Janice with a wedding, but it’s really just going to be stating what is already the reality: we’re going to together for the rest of our lives.”
“I used to cringe when someone would say that to me,” says Dickinson, who has been married three times before. “I would be shredding the screen door to get out of the room. But Rocky is just so compatible with me. We make magic happen together. Each day is like a new adventure.”
Though they’ve been engaged since 2012 they have both since faced health scares — Dickinson battled breast cancer earlier this year and Gerner suffered a collapsed lung after falling of the roof of their home two months ago. Still, the couple continued planning their big day.
The Ceremony
“I’d always envisioned our wedding outdoors. Janice loves flowers and gardening,” says Gerner, who wed Dickinson Saturday at 3 p.m. in the garden of a friend’s estate in front of approximately 100 guests, including Dickinson’s pals actress Emma Roberts, model Beverly Johnson and former O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro.
Gerber and the wedding party — which included Dickinson’s daughter, Savannah, as maid of honor and Gerber Jr. as best man — entered the ceremony to Frank Sinatra’s “The Best is Yet to Come” while Dickinson’s close friend Joey Santos, a celebrity chef and events planner who also planned the wedding, serenaded the bride with Nat King Cole’s “Too Young” as she walked down the aisle.
The couple wrote their own vows and the ceremony was officiated by a friend of Dickinson.
The Dress
“I wanted something silky and romantic and just breathtakingly embroidered ,” Dickinson says of her “neo-romantic, ethereal” Jane Booke wedding gown. “The train is about 30-ft. long so I can float around the garden like a butterfly. You’ve never seen anything like it before and you’ll never see something like it again – unless some chain store knocks it off.”
“Because it’s not her first marriage, we decided to go with ivory as the main pallet and pair that with pale pinks and greens and little silvers here and there because those are the colors Janice has in her home and has always loved,” says Santos, who found vintage shoes that fit the wedding’s color scheme to go along with Dickinson’s dress.
The Rings
“It’s very conservative for Janice Dickinson,” the model says of her custom-designed eternity ring, which she ended up wearing home from the shop when they bought it. “It’s a beautiful setting, the band is very Victorian. I could have gotten something very over the top and extravagant, but I chose this band with diamonds on three sides because I bang my hands a lot. I work in the garden, I dig. I didn’t want something that would get banged up or fall off.”
Gerner’s ring is a “simple gold band with ‘forever’ inscribed on it,” says Dickinson, who is currently working with agent.com to provide an online space for aspiring models from around the world to find work and representation. “So, now he’s stuck with me. He’s the man of my dreams.”
The Reception – and the Cake!
“Since it’s an off-hour — it’s not really a lunch and it’s not really a dinner. So, I made it more of a high-tea feeling,” says Santos, who prepared finger sandwiches and “really elegant little bites.”
For the cake, Santos prepared a three-tier cake — with one layer of red velvet, another of chocolate chocolate fudge and a third of vanilla — designed to match the colors of the wedding.
And even though Dickinson says she doesn’t “mind” becoming Gerner’s wife, she chose a very cheeky first song to start the dance party: a version of “You Don’t Own Me” performed live by singer Crown Jwlz.
“I’m so honored Janice sought me out to sing at her wedding,” says the singer. “And I love that she’s having fun with the song choice.”
“ is really all about great food and great music,” says Dickinson, who continues to be an advocate for global same-sex legalization. “And, of course, all the love in the entire universe.”
