Jamie xx: 'Gosh' music video debuts
Jamie xx released a new music video for “Gosh,” off last year’s excellent album In Colour, early Friday morning. Debuting on iTunes and Apple Music and directed by Romain Gavras (M.I.A.’s “Born Free”), the clip features an enormous cast — more than 400 actors filmed with no CGI or 3D effects, according to a release — moving in near-synchronization.
The camera pans through a city deserted except for the staged actors. At one point, hundreds of people in matching track suits gather under the Eiffel Tower near one man wearing all white. (The Eiffel Tower shown here is actually a replica of Paris’ structure in the gated community Tianducheng, near Hangzhou, the capitol of China’s Zhejiang province.) They move around him in formation, dancing and chanting, creating a stirring image of leadership.
“Please watch full screen with loud speakers or headphones,” Gavras tweeted.
“Romain Gavras has directed some of my very favourite music videos,” Jamie xx wrote on Facebook. “I’m so happy that my music inspired him to make something this incredible for GOSH…”
Last year, Jamie xx released another video for “Gosh.” That clip highlighted a spinning planet as the camera zooms in slow motion.
