James Corden Uses 'La La Land' Scene to Sing About Oscars Debacle

James Corden kicked off The Late Late Show with a scene from La La Land in which he inserted himself into Emma Stone’s role. The scene is the one in which Stone’s character, Mia, breaks into a song about her aunt during an audition. Corden sang about La La Land winning the Oscar for Best Picture, and then immediately losing it to Moonlight.

Corden started by singing, “Was this a mixup? A conspiracy, a fixup? Or was Warren Beatty just blind?” The Late Late Show host continued, “Moonlight, come give your speech on your film about hand jobs on the beach. This result doesn’t seem right, Oscars used to be so white.”

Corden took the opportunity to give a shout-out to the people who lost everything right after they won it, singing, “So here’s to the Ryans, who hold back from cryin’, producers and Chrissy Teigen’s man,” as pictures from that night appeared around Corden’s head.

In the end, he dreamed about a happier time … the beginning of the Oscars. Referring to the opening performance by Justin Timberlake, Corden sang, “Here’s to unfortunate souls, not happy like that song from Trolls.“
