K-pop idol Jackson Wang, DJ Peggy Gou, K-drama star Jung Il Woo and Japanese musician/actor Miyavi were among the guests taking part in the two-night event, which helped to ring in the new 14-storey boutique hotel, located in Tokyo’s toney Ginza district.

Joined by international stars like Dita Von Teese and Nick Grimshaw, the festivities kicked off March 14 with an invite-only dinner at Sophie at EDITION, the hotel’s Japanese-infused brasserie. Dinner and dessert quickly gave way to an intimate dance party, where Wang was seen taking selfies with Japanese artist (and Blackpink artist director) Verdy, and MMA star Kota Miura, while revelers got down to a surprise performance from former Brand New Heavies singer, N’Dea Davenport, followed by DJ sets from Grimshaw, AMIAYA, and Daito Manabe.
The party eventually made its way to to Punch Room, the EDITION’s global bar concept, known for serving mixologist-minded drinks in giant punch bowls. The Punch Room at the Ginza EDITION offers Japanese-inspired cocktails that draw on local spirits and ingredients like sake, yuzu, citrus, Fuji apples and ryokucha tea. Guests partied into the late night (even by Tokyo standards) with performances by local artist Kona Rose and DJ sets by SHUZO, YAMATO, and Sunny.
The second evening of the EDITION’s two-night Tokyo takeover brought guests to the hotel chain’s other local property, The Tokyo EDITION Toranomon. After dinner at The Jade Room + Garden Terrace, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant helmed by British chef Tom Aikens, guests were ushered into Gold Bar, the property’s adjoining nightclub and lounge.

While the party served as a chance to promote the EDITION’s Tokyo hotels, it also marked the 10-year reunion of MEAT, an underground Tokyo club night that gained popularity in the 2000s. Some of the biggest DJs from MEAT were on-hand to spin at Gold Bar, including Mademoiselle Yulia and YOSHIROTTEN (all assembled by Purple PR’s Stevie King). They were joined by DJs PELI, Aimee Phillips, and Grimshaw (back for an encore set) as some of Tokyo’s most fashionable artists, musicians and influencers filed into the chic and intimate space.
While the Toranomon property opened three years ago, as Japan was slowly coming out of Covid, The Tokyo EDITION Ginza has had a much more direct path to opening. Situated on a prime corner in the trendy Ginza district, the striking, cubic building first welcomed guests in late 2023, merging the EDITION brand’s edgy New York sensibilities with the refinement and tranquility of Japan. Whereas Toranomon is a tall and gleaming outpost, set among Tokyo’s skyscrapers and office towers, the Ginza property is moody and minimalist, set apart by a latticed exterior and a floor-to-ceiling lightbox installation just past the entryway.
The Ginza hotel boasts 86 guestrooms spread over its 14 floors, along with a rooftop oasis overlooking the bustling Chuo-dori, the neighborhood’s legendary commercial avenue. In addition to being steps away from Tokyo’s designer boutiques and galleries, the EDITION Ginza is also located just a few blocks from Ginza’s Kabukiza Theatre, which has held performances of the traditional Japanese kabuki since the late 19th century. Both the old Tsukiji Market (also known as the Tsukiji Fish Market) and the Imperial Palace (which has served as the residence of the Japanese Emperor since 1868) are a short walk or cab ride away. Also of note: Ginza has the highest concentration of Michelin-listed restaurants in all of Japan, with 34 out of the city’s 183 Michelin-starred restaurants located in the district.
The Tokyo EDITION Ginza is the 19th property in the EDITION Hotels portfolio. Created by hotelier Ian Schrager, in partnership with Marriott International, EDITION now has properties around the world, including other recent openings in Bodrum (Turkiye), Tampa Bay, and Riviera Maya in Mexico.
