Italian hotel staff pranks Rainn Wilson with Jell-O a la ‘The Office’
Fact: There’s always room for Jell-O.
It seems that a certain Italian hotel staff took some notes from “The Office” prankster Jim Halpert (played by John Krasinski).
Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute for eight years, recently took to Instagram to share the room service he received during a stay in Florence, Italy.
The 58-year-old actor’s meal came complete with a knife and fork encased in bright red Jell-O.
A holdover from the UK version of the show, the gag started in the pilot episode with a stapler. Halpert went on to give Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) and Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) the same treatment with a coffee mug and calculator, respectively.
A few of his co-stars chimed in to appreciate the punking.
Helms commented: “Haha!!! That is so wonderful and funny!
I hope you left a giant tip (in jello!)!”
Even Kate Flannery, who played Meredith Palmer, was impressed, commenting: “
”
Netflix Italia couldn’t help itself, writing: “ITALIAN HOTEL ROOM SERVICE IS NOT A JOKE, JIM!
”
Even though the sitcom has been off the air for more than 10 years, audiences still can’t get enough of it. At the start of this year, it racked up 602 million minutes of viewing time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In January, Wilson shared a note on X (formerly Twitter) that he received on an Alaska Airlines flight. The note read: “The Office got me through some of the darkest days of my life,” the message read. “I can’t thank you enough for that. Sincerely, Melanie (Alaska flight attendant).”
The actor wrote alongside the pic: “I didn’t even see who dropped this on my lap at the PDX airport but I greatly appreciate the sentiment, flight attendant Melanie of Alaska Airlines. So humbled to be a part of a show that affected, touched, comforted and inspired. And continues to do so!”
As Dwight Schrute once said, “People underestimate the power of nostalgia. Nostalgia is truly one of the greatest human weaknesses, second only to the neck.”
