Internet Says JD Vance's 'Small Talk' With Donut Shop Workers Reminds Them of 'The Office' Skit

JD Vance continues to raise eyebrows with his commentary.

The Ohio senator has been a polarizing figure since  Donald Trump selected him as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. And one of his latest press appearances once again had people scratching their heads.

This week, the internet reacted to a C-SPAN video of Vance talking to employees at a donut shop in Georgia, where the noticeably awkward conversation didn't do much to help him beat the "weird" label he and Trump have faced during their campaign.

In the clip, reposted to Reddit on Thursday, Aug. 22, Vance tried to engage in small talk with workers behind the counter at a donut shop. But his visit was off to a rough start when one of the employees asked that she not be filmed.

Vance, 40, went on with the uncomfortable conversation, introducing himself to the woman and letting her know that he was running for vice president, to which she simply replied, "OK."

He then proceeded to ask the woman and her co-worker how long they had been working at the shop, and when they answered, Vance replied with, "OK, good," which some fans found to be an odd response.

"He is very bad at small talk," one person wrote underneath the video on Reddit, while another user added that the vice president nominee "comes off as so fake" in the clip.

"Almost every answer he gives is 'yeah, good'. You can tell he couldn’t care less about these people, and they can tell too," someone else pointed out.

Another person said, "The cringe was so potent" in the video.

Other Reddit users noted that Vance had the same "awkward tension" often featured in The Office, as the sitcom was famous for its mockumentary-style humor.

"Reminds me of something from The Office," one user wrote, while another said, "It's so fake it's authentically bad like I am watching Parks and Rec.," another comedy show with a similar pretense.

Some users also thought the video could make good content for Saturday Night Live, with one person calling the clip an "SNL goldmine."
