‘Impeachment: American Crime Story’ Casts Clive Owen as Bill Clinton

Clive Owen has been cast as President Bill Clinton in the upcoming third season of “American Crime Story” at FX, Variety has confirmed.
The season will focus on Clinton’s impeachment and the Monica Lewinsky scandal. It was previously announced that Beanie Feldstein will star as Lewinsky, with Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. The role of Hilary Clinton is still being cast. The season will be based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.” Production on Season 3 will begin in early 2020 with the premiere slated for Sept. 27, 2020.

Owen was also recently cast in a lead role in the upcoming Apple drama series “Lisey’s Story” opposite Julianne Moore. He previously starred in the Cinemax period drama “The Knick.” Owen was nominated for the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in the 2004 drama “Closer.” He is also known for starring roles in films like “Children of Men,” “Inside Man,” “Gosford Park,” “Sin City,” and “Shoot ‘Em Up.”
He is repped by CAA and Hirsch Wallerstein.
The third installment will be written by Sarah Burgess who will also executive produce alongside Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Paulson. Lewinsky will serve as producer along with Feldstein, Henrietta Conrad, and Jemima Khan. Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions will produce.
The first season of “American Crime Story” followed the principal players in the O.J. Simpson trial, while Season 2 detailed the death of Gianni Versace at the hands of spree killer Andrew Cunanan. Season 1 ultimately received 22 Emmy nominations, winning nine, while Season 2 received 19 Emmy nominations, winning seven.
The new season’s launch will come right around the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. House Democrats recently formally opened an impeachment inquiry into Republican President Donald Trump, who is accused of pressuring the president of Ukraine into opening an investigation into Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden.
