Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures Hires Ana Garanito As Head of Development
SAG and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba has tapped Ana Garanito as Head of Development for his Green Door Pictures. She will spearhead scripted film and TV development for the company, which is looking to ramp up its efforts in the arena. Veteran Garanito, who most recently did stints for Runaway Fridge Productions and FremantleMedia International, will work alongside Elba and executive consultant Stewart Till. She also joins operations manager Vikki Barron and group finance manager Carol Harris in the company, whose portfolio includes narrative and documentary features, scripted and unscripted/docu TV series, and theater projects.
“Ana is smart, tenacious and shares my commitment to finding great material that is character and story driven and lives in the zeitgeist,” Elba said. “Stewart Till, with his vast experience, has been a constant source of direction and guidance; my company benefits from his presence.”
Launched in 2014, Green Door got on the map with the 2015 documentary Mandela, My Dad And Me. Directed by Daniel Vernon, it followed Elba on a journey of “self-exploration” in South Africa during the filming of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom in which he starred as the anti-apartheid hero.
Next up, the company has feature A Hundred Streets, starring Elba and Gemma Arterton, which will premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. Filming is underway on the second season of the Discovery documentary series No Limits, which Green Door co-produces with Shine North. Other co-productions include the feature documentary Cut From A Different Cloth, which follows Elba as he teams with enigmatic entrepreneur and Superdry founder Julian Dunkerton for a risky new business venture. In scripted TV, the company has John Ridley’s limited TV series Guerilla for Sky and Showtime, which Elba executive produces and co-stars in.
Elba is repped by WME, The Artists Partnership and attorney James Finney.
