Hugh Jackman shares a humbling story about Stan Lee
On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hugh Jackman spoke about one of his first experiences with comic book icon Stan Lee, who died Monday morning at the age of 95. Jackman, who played Wolverine in several Marvel movies, recalled a very humbling experience with Lee when they were at Comic-Con. Jackman thought that, being Wolverine and all, he would be a big deal. But he couldn’t have been more wrong.
“I was on this red carpet and I was the only one on there, and no one was taking my photo because at the other end was Stan Lee,” Jackman said. “And there was about 300 photographers and interviewers just all on Stan.”
There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!

We’ve lost a creative genius. Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe. I’m proud to have been a small part of his legacy and …. to have helped bring one of his characters to life. #StanLee #Wolverine pic.twitter.com/iOdefi7iYz

Like so many others from the Marvel Universe, Jackman tweeted out his appreciation for Lee, and on The Late Show, he only had glowing words about his friend.
“I remember Stan as a true gentleman who had this glint in his eye. He’s a creative genius,” Jackman said. “He thought outside the box. He created a whole universe that changed the lives of many people, mine included.”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
