First look at Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell reuniting with 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' cast for mini-sequel
Make that five weddings for Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. The stars of the 1994 romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral are reuniting to star in a “sequel” that picks up 25 years after the original film. But this is no Hollywood reboot. One Red Nose Day and a Wedding is a short film that will air on Red Nose Day USA, the Comic Relief-sponsored charity fundraiser. In addition to Grant and MacDowell, seven original members of the cast will appear in the short, including Rowan Atkinson as the gaffe-prone vicar and Kristen Scott Thomas as the sophisticate who always wears black to weddings. (As we recall, she married Prince Charles at the end of the film, so her last 25 years will certainly have been interesting.) Check out the whole cast in the first-look photo above.
One Red Nose Day and a Wedding is written by Richard Curtis and directed by Mike Newell, the same pair who worked on the original film. Curtis, the British comedy genius who also penned Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Notting Hill, co-founded the original Red Nose Day in the U.K. (which has raised more than $1 billion globally since 1988).
An American version of the event has been airing annually in the U.S. on NBC since 2015. Two years ago, Curtis reunited the cast of Love Actually for a cheeky 10-minute sequel, which featured Grant’s Prime Minster dancing to “Hotline Bling.”
The 2019 Red Nose Day Special, featuring One Red Nose Day and a Wedding, will air Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
