Your Honor, the Showtime drama series, is a whirlwind of moral dilemma, existential woes and strife for justice with Bryan Cranston leading the charge as Judge Michael Desiato.

When it originally debuted, the title was intended to be a one-season miniseries but ultimately became a two-season phenomenon. Seasons 1 and 2 aired on Showtime from 2020 to 2022 and became available to stream for Showtime subscribers on Paramount+ — until the drama became available on Netflix in late May 2024.

Since then, Your Honor has consistently remained in the top 10 list, eventually dethroning Bridgerton for the No. 1 spot in early July 2024.

Your Honor centers on the story of a New Orleans judge, Michael Desiato (Cranston), who compromises his ethics to protect his son, Adam (Hunter Doohan), after a fatal hit-and-run accident involving Rocco Baxter (Benjamin Wadsworth), son of notorious mob boss Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg). Desiato’s decision to safeguard his son from harm paradoxically sets off a chain of events with compounding consequences, ending in tragedy and Desiato behind bars ... twice.

The show’s grip lies in the minute-by-minute turns that distort and dissect themes of justice, truth, redemption and morality — echoing similar thematic cores of Cranston’s iconic reign as Walter White in Breaking Bad.

With millions of new fans and viewership skyrocketing, chatter of a third season has left viewers wondering if the season 2 finale is really the end of the story.

Here’s everything to know about the drama series dominating streaming charts, and the possibility of a Your Honor season 3.

Your Honor follows the descent of Desiato, a respected judge in New Orleans whose life takes a dark turn when his son Adam accidentally kills Rocco, the son of Baxter, a notorious mob boss, in a hit-and-run accident.

To protect Adam, Desiato makes a series of increasingly dubious decisions, drawing himself further into the realms of the organized crime world that he originally intended to shield his son from.

As Desiato’s lies escalate, they offset a series of consequences, including the death of Kofi (Lamar Johnson) — an innocent man framed for Adam’s crime, and later killed in prison by the victim’s brother, Carlo (Jimi Stanton). In the middle of all this, Adam starts dating Fia (Lilli Kay), the sister of Carlo and Rocco, further intertwining himself into the family affected by the death he caused.

The first season concludes as Kofi’s brother, Eugene (Benjamin Flores Jr.) seeks revenge after the Baxters firebomb Kofi’s home, killing his mother. Eugene attempts to shoot Carlo in retaliation but accidentally kills Adam instead — the irony being, of course, that Adam is technically the reason for both of their brothers' deaths.

But the question of whether he deserved that kind of justice or if he was even truly at fault is what makes the show brutally agonizing and captivating.

How did season 2 of Your Honor end?

Desiato’s involvement in underground crime only broadens in season 2 as the former judge, now in prison, works with Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Delmont (Rosie Perez) to take down Baxter. While Desiato does confess the truth to Detective Costello (Amy Landecker), his confession is buried by Delmont — who instead concocts a plan to send Desiato to prison for tax evasion, so Baxter won’t suspect Desiato was the one who implicated him.

The series unfolds as Desiato is released from prison and becomes more entangled with both past and present deceptions, an unsettling proximity to the Baxter family and a courtroom breaking point in the season finale.

When Desiato is forced to testify at Eugene’s trial for Adam’s murder, he takes the stand and confesses everything — Adam killing Baxter’s son in the hit-and-run, covering it up and the web of lies that ultimately led to Kofi’s death, and later Eugene’s mother.

Meanwhile, Baxter is shot and left hospitalized after his wife, Gina (Hope Davis), convinces her father, Carmine (Mark Margolis) — a high-ranking mob boss with mounting resentment against Baxter — to take him out. Afterward, Gina has her dad arrested for the crime thus giving her complete control over the crime syndicate.

The season concludes with Desiato returning to prison — this time for crimes he did commit — and he's content with his fate.

As of now, Your Honor hasn’t been renewed for a third season — but there are still glimmers of hope for fans. Cranston told Deadline in April 2023 that it’s not entirely out of the question.

“There is some discussion. Showtime has indicated there is interest and we’re very proud to know that every episode in Season 2 increased in the audience from the previous week,” the actor said, adding that he’d “be very interested in producing that.”

Despite Cranston expressing interest in being involved in the project, it doesn’t necessarily mean his character will be. The actor explained that he’d only reprise his role as Desiato if the season explored the reality of a father grieving his son.

“I said, ‘This guy, if this really happened and you lost a child, it changes your life forever,” Cranston told Deadline. “So if you really want to show a man in abject despair, if there is any possibility of a life beyond that, let’s do it. But it has to be incrementally discovered,’ [Showtime] were willing to do that.”

In an interview with Deadline in July 2024, CBS Studios president David Stapf expressed enthusiasm and willingness for a third season, but also noted that, even if it does happen, it's likely further down the line than fans may have hoped.

“We love the show, and we’re hoping that it can continue, but it’s a little too soon to know or to tell,” Stapf said. “We would like there to be a season 3 but we’re ways away.”

No official news of a third season of Your Honor has been confirmed.
