Hillary Clinton blasts Lindsey Graham's opening statement at the Barr hearing: 'An absolute disgrace'
On The Rachel Maddow Show Wednesday night, Hillary Clinton was not shy about her feelings regarding Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) opening statement at the Barr hearing earlier in the day. The purpose of the hearing was to have Attorney General William Barr answer questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Graham heads, about his handling of the Mueller report. But in his opening statement, Graham spoke about his desire to look into the FBI investigation into Clinton’s emails and email servers from her time as Secretary of State.
When Maddow asked Clinton about Graham’s opening statement, Clinton responded, “That’s a disgrace. It’s an absolute disgrace. Ya know, they know better.”
Clinton went on to explain what she believes to be the reason Graham and others continue to talk about her emails.
“This is part of their whole technique to divert attention from what the real story is,” Clinton said. “The real story is the Russians interfered in our election and Trump committed obstruction of justice.”
Despite the fact that the FBI wrapped up their investigation into Clinton’s emails nearly three years ago, and Republicans investigated that FBI investigation while their party still had a majority in the House, Clinton’s emails are still a popular subject among conservatives. Clinton believes there’s a reason for that too.
“I guess it’s one of their tools to fire up their hardcore base,” Clinton said. “When in doubt, go after me.”
The Rachel Maddow Show airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on MSNBC.
