Kevin Hart Told Chloe Bailey He Hasn't Read Reviews On His Work In 12 Years, And She Loved His Reason Why — Honestly, So Did I
When it comes to outside opinions of his work, Kevin Hart prefers to mind his business.
During a recent episode of his Gold Minds with Kevin Hart podcast, the comedian-turned-actor opened up about his decision to purposely avoid reading any reviews of his work, even if they're positive.
Chloe Bailey was his guest, which was special because Chloe is featured in Kevin's new Peacock drama Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, which he stars in and co-produced. As the two shared their business learnings, Kevin explained his choice to avoid critics — a decision he made years ago.
"I don't read reviews," Kevin said. "I don't read any form of information attached to my material or my things that I do, that comes out afterwards."
"Hand on a Bible to god, I have not read any of it in the past 12 years."
Chloe said she believed him, but she wondered if that statement was also true for social media, since he's active on there. Kevin doubled-down on his remarks, saying he doesn't read any of it. Chloe deemed his choice "healthy."
Kevin went on to admit that even when he received a call about the positive reviews and feedback Fight Night was getting, he revealed he hadn't read any of them. Even after they offered to send them to him, he was adamant about not reading the reviews.
"I don't get caught up in the good or the bad version of it, because what I get caught up in is having an idea, then telling myself that I'm going to do the idea, collaborating with people to do it, finishing it, then seeing the idea on the big screen, or on the small screen, or in script form."
"I go, 'Man, good for me. I put my mind on something and I finished it.' So, I'm happy with the fact that I can do the things that I say I'm going to do. Other people's opinions of that thing does not affect my joy about my goal of completing [it]."
Kevin told Chloe that as long as her and her sister Halle Bailey are happy with their work, nothing else should matter. He added there's a certain level of "not giving a fuck" that she has to reach to truly achieve that peace, but it's not always easy.
The "Body Do" singer accepted the advice Kevin gave her, motioning that she was storing the information in her heart to keep with her.
Honestly, I digested that information for myself as well, and I plan on keeping it in mind for the work I put out in the future. I hope you all do the same. You can catch Chloe and Kevin's full Gold Minds podcast interview below:
