Heidi Klum‘s Halloween Costume Countdown

No. 17: Embracing her German roots, Heidi dressed as a goth St. Pauli Girl — sporting a bustier, braids, and black leather and spiked accessories — at her inaugural bash, which took place in 2000. It was fun and she looked sexy, but it was safe. (Photo: DMIPhoto/FilmMagic)
No. 16: Her costume wasn’t much to crow about in 2009. Although a lot of work went into creating the elaborate feathery getup, which certainly got an “A” for effort, ultimately it disguised the Project Runway host too much. She got lost in the crowd — and she shouldn’t have at her own party. (Photo: Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic)
No. 15: Heidi was ready to suck some blood in 2005. Her fanged vampire costume was big and bold, from the huge curly black wig to the giant wings. An added touch was the exposed heart. The only thing was, it wasn’t all that different from her witch outfit the year before — that too centered around a giant, out-of-control wig — making it less of a standout. No. 14: In 2010, standing out was not a problem. The America’s Got Talent judge dressed as a Transformer with special boots, which boosted her height to 8 feet tall. Her costume included a purple glitter mask, colored contacts, and cool zigzag choppers. (Photo by Bryan Bedder/Getty Images)
No. 13: Heidi was outta this world in 2003, slipping into an alien outfit. But she wasn’t dressed as just any extraterrestrial — Klum was a glistening gold one, wearing body glitter galore, fake teeth (was she the one who started the grill trend?), and crazy Medusa-like braids. To show just how committed she was to the costume, she even arrived in a UFO! (Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images)
No. 12: Meow! The star’s take on a cat was pretty purrfect in 2007. She showed off her famous figure in the sexy skintight costume, which also boasted a darkness to it thanks to Thriller-type yellow contacts. She paid very close attention to detail, right down to the heart collar, which said, “If Found, Please Return to Seal,” a reference to her then-husband, who seemed equally enthusiastic about the holiday when they were together. No. 11: The supermodel wasn’t going for groundbreaking when she zipped herself up into a red-hot dress and swiped her lashes with extra mascara to be Betty Boop in 2002. But she looked really good as the famed cartoon character, and it’s such a memorable Heidi Halloween look that we had to bump it up on our list. (Photo: Evan Agostini/ImageDirect)
No. 10: In 2004, Klum again took a traditional Halloween costume — the standard witch outfit — and fired it up. In addition to her sexy red bodysuit and lace-up boots, she sported a wild wig and fun hat. The star (pictured with Seal as the Phantom of the Opera) suffered for the cause too: The skeleton was attached to a backpack under her costume that weighed about 50 pounds. But that didn’t stop Heidi from making a big entrance! She rode in on her broomstick with the help of a harness, proving she’d go to great heights to delight her guests. No. 9: This is a sentimental fave. In 2006, the reality TV star was eight months’ pregnant and there was speculation that she wouldn’t even have a party. But she just can’t quit Halloween. Instead, she put a creative spin on her costume, dressing as the serpent and apple from the Garden of Eden. Her then-husband, Seal, went as Eve. (Photo: WireImage)
No. 8: In 2008, Heidi went all out as Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction. With a base of a blue bodysuit (and matching face paint), it was all about the accessories, which included heads, hands, red beady eyes, and a sword. While it was a memorable look, it wasn’t a winner for everyone. Her portrayal of the deity with vampire fangs and a skirt made of severed bloody hands upset Hindu leaders. No: 7: The mom of four waited a long time to wear this Cleopatra costume. Superstorm Sandy led her to cancel her annual soiree in 2012, but she vowed she would wear her costume and she did, having a Haunted Holiday party in early December instead, with proceeds from the bash going to the Red Cross. It took several hours to get her makeup done for the royal ensemble because she had hundreds of stones individually glued to her face. Now that’s dedication. No. 6: The model is one of the most beautiful people in the world, but in 2013 she retired her youthful looks to be a granny at her NYC soiree. For her night of living like a senior citizen, Klum relied on five makeup artists to apply prosthetic wrinkles and airbrush varicose veins onto her arms and legs. She completed the look with a gray wig, grandma-like clothing, and walked with a cane. It was a fun glimpse into the future, but we think she’ll probably age a lot better than her costume counterpart. (Photo: Andrew Toth/FilmMagic)
No. 5: This was a game-changer! As the famously nude Lady Godiva, a platinum-wig-wearing Heidi arrived at her 2001 party and made quite an entrance — on horseback. While the costume was fairly simple, her showstopping arrival was a move that really upped the ante and demonstrated that she was serious about becoming the Halloween queen. She’s been ruling the night ever since! (Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images)
No. 4: In 2011, Heidi held two shindigs — one in New York and another in Las Vegas — and didn’t disappoint at either venue. She sported this one for the Big Apple bash, proving just how bananas she really is for Halloween. The star (pictured with Seal) went completely ape in this anatomically correct primate outfit. It took a grueling six hours to get ready for the event, but it was worth it. It’s definitely one of her best. (Photo: Paul Zimmerman/WireImage)
No. 3: In a sense, Heidi’s Jessica Rabbit costume reminds us quite a bit of her Betty Boop, but it has the benefit of experience. Now a full-fledged Halloween superfan, the model spent nine hours with her elaborate glam squad (including pro prosthetic experts), transforming into the iconic siren, including attaching her fake booty and gigantic breasts, in 2015. The result was dramatic — she really brought the character to life. Well, larger than life. (Photo: Nicholas Hunt/Getty Images for Heidi Klum)
No. 2: At her first party in 2011 (she had two that year), Klum arrived in an anatomy-inspired ensemble with a hand-painted bodysuit displaying bones, muscles, veins, and tendons. The look, which took three and a half hours to put together, also included gross yellow prosthetic teeth and red contact lenses. Making it a little playful? Gigantic platform shoes. The best part, however, was that she arrived on a stretcher. Two blood-covered doctors wheeled her down the red carpet and into the bash. Bloody perfect! (Photo: Getty Images)
No.1: In 2014, Klum really spread her wings, morphing into an amazing butterfly. But not just any butterfly — one with prosthetics, body makeup, and the most enormous colorful wings, which took five hours to get on. The result was simply stunning, despite the fact that she couldn’t see very well. It’s our all-time favorite for execution (the sheer work that went into it!), but she should also get props for spending all night in a club wearing the getup. Do you know how many people must have knocked her wings? It will be very hard to top this in 2016, but she’ll keep trying. (Photo: Gary Gershoff/WireImage)

The supermodel sure sinks her teeth into Halloween. Not only is her annual spooky soiree a hot ticket, but her costumes, which she starts working on months in advance, are always a must-see. However, some are better than others, so we decided to rank them — from fun and festive to over-the-top awesome.
