OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH Season 2 Will Sail Onto Our Screens in 2023
Our Flag Means Death fans, rejoice! After season one’s tragic ending, it’s time for our favorite pirates to return. Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard will come back in season two of Our Flag Means Death. HBO Max announced the long-awaited renewal much to fans’ relief. It dropped the Our Flag Means Death season two news using a clip from the episode in which Blackbeard demonstrates a f**kery to Stede’s crew.

And now, even more excitingly, HBO has confirmed Our Flag Means Death season two will premiere in 2023. We don’t know who exactly will return for Our Flag Means Death season two, but we have no reason not to expect the full cast to return. While Stede and Ed do shine, the comedy is really an ensemble. The show wouldn’t be the same without Roach, Jim, Oluwande, and everyone.
Recently, creator and showrunner David Jenkins teased the first episode of Our Flag Means Death season two. (And the internet went wild.)
According to Taika Waititi, the production also moved to a brand new location, New Zealand. Waititi shared with Collider.
We start filming hopefully I think by October, and we’re gonna shoot in New Zealand. We shot the last one in LA. Weird place to try and do something all on the ocean, so we’re gonna go down to New Zealand which is surrounded by it. That’s one of the things I’m most excited about for the next year.
And thanks to star Samba Schutte, we know that production has officially wrapped on season two. Which brings us one step closer to the season itself.
Season one of Our Flag Means Death premiered on March 3, 2022. Starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi, the romance follows Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach, a.k.a. Blackbeard. Since its release, the streaming series has picked up more and more viewers and inspired so much excellent fan art. It was the biggest series in the US in early April. Our Flag Means Death has stayed near the top of streaming charts in the many weeks since. We could not be more excited about this news.
Our Flag Means Death depicted a lovely queer relationship between its main characters, as well as ones among the crew. Unlike so many shows that have queerbaited their audiences, Our Flag Means Death delivered on the flirty nature of Stede and Blackbeard’s relationship. They did have a classic romance misunderstanding trope towards the end of season one. However, we have every hope Stede and Ed will find their way back together.
