Harry Hamlin doesn’t plan to leave the kitchen anytime soon.

The Clash of the Titans star has taken his culinary chops to the small screen on his new show, In the Kitchen with Harry Hamlin, and he says he doesn’t plan to stop cooking there.

On the AMC+ series, Hamlin enlists the help of his Le Cordon Bleu School-trained chef niece, Renee Guilbault, in preparing a menu for a celebrity dinner party. But he says there was no way he would have agreed to the show had Guilbault not been involved.

Hamlin tells PEOPLE that he told the TV executives, “There's only one way I'll do it and that's if my niece can do it with me.”

He continues, explaining that their dynamic blossomed in the kitchen: “The Abbott and Costello of our relationship really came out in the kitchen because she knows what she's doing and I don't, and we were able to play off of that.”

The pair prepare meals and invite guests like Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen and Bobby Moynihan into The 80 for Brady actor’s home. Viewers then get to pull up a seat alongside the A-list stars and listen in on their thoughts on the recipes and personal stories.

While Hamlin says he has “never seen a cooking show,” he said getting in front of the camera in his kitchen was not intimidating. Not only did he have his niece by his side, but he's also used to the screen time from his wife Lisa Rinna’s time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“My wife was on that other show for eight years and from time to time they were in our kitchen. So I got used to that, and I cooked for them,” Hamlin explains.

In the hit Bravo series, Hamlin found himself cooking bolognese for the ladies, which, in typical RHOBH fashion, turned into drama among some of the cast. But the flavor of the sauce was not part of the cattiness.

“It's got legs,” the Mad Men actor says of his bolognese. “I've been cooking that for the fam for years and years and years. And we have friends who live on the same street that we live on, and they've been coming over on Sundays for years to have bolognese, and it became a tradition when our kids were younger.”

The dish had been a longtime staple in the Rinna-Hamlin household, and might be one in your home soon, too.

“[Renee and I] are partnering up on the bolognese sauce. So that's in the works right now. And hopefully with luck it'll be available in the fall,” Hamlin tells PEOPLE. He has yet to share details on the retailers that will bottle the sauce.

When asked about if his cooking passion could result in a cookbook, Hamlin quickly responds, “I would hope so” and adds, “Renee and I, we were talking about a cookbook, and she could do one in a second. She's an expert.”

In the Kitchen with Harry Hamlin airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on AMC+ and IFC.
