'Will & Harper,' Will Ferrell documentary filmed in part in Indy, hits Netflix next month
A documentary featuring "Saturday Night Live" alum Will Ferrell that was shot partially in Indianapolis is set to debut on Netflix late next month, the streamer announced Wednesday.
"Will & Harper" features the actor and his good friend, Harper Steele, a former writer on the NBC sketch comedy series. After Steele came out as transgender during the COVID-19 pandemic, the pair took a cross-country road trip "to process this new stage in their friendship and reintroduce Harper to the country she loves as her authentic self," the film's Netflix summary says.

The documentary, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, will be available to stream Sept. 27. You'll also be able to catch showings at the Landmark Keystone Art Cinema, 8702 Keystone Crossing, beginning Sept. 13.
The duo stopped in Indianapolis in March 2023 while filming the documentary and garnered attention from fans who wondered why they spotted Ferrell at a Beech Grove Walmart and later at an Indiana Pacers game.
It remains to be seen how much of the content shot in the Circle City makes the final cut, but Vulture reported earlier this year that the film features a "polite" interaction between Ferrell and Gov. Eric Holcomb, juxtaposed with information regarding the state's recent bans on gender-affirming care for youth.

Ferrell and Steele were hired at SNL in the 1990s and quickly struck up a friendship. After SNL, Steele wrote for Ferrell's comedy video site Funny or Die, and the pair co-wrote the 2020 film "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga."
