The Handmaid’s Tale Adds Josh Charles in Key Role for Sixth and Final Season
The Handmaid’s Tale is making a high-profile addition ahead of its sixth and final season. The Good Wife star Josh Charles is joining the Hulu drama as a series regular, our sister site Deadline reports, though details about his character are being kept under lock and key.
The series, whose 10-episode fifth season aired way back in 2022, is expected to return for its long-awaited swan song sometime in 2025.

This marks the latest piece of casting news since Ever Carradine was promoted to series regular. The actress, who plays Naomi, has been with the show since Season 1, introduced as the wife of Gilead leader Commander Putnam and a friend (of a sort) to Serena Joy Waterford.
The Handmaid’s Tale’s Final Season: Everything We Know
Star and executive producer Elisabeth Moss, who recently appeared opposite Charles in FX’s The Veil, revealed to TVLine exclusively that she will direct four episodes of the show’s final season — the first two installments, and the last two.
The final season, Moss teased, is “big and wild, and goes to many different places, and it is very, very surprising all the way through.” Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
The Handmaid’s Tale‘s fifth season ended with June and baby Nichole going back on the run. Though they won’t be joined by Luke, who turned himself over to the authorities in order to help them escape, June was gobsmacked to discover that Serena and her son Noah are also fleeing.
