Halle Berry is glad people are enjoying ‘Catwoman’ after she carried ‘the weight’ of the film for years

On Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Halle Berry stopped by and reflected on the fact that she is finally getting some love for her 2004 film, Catwoman, which was a box office bomb and a critical failure. But Berry says that while it seemed like pretty much everyone was disappointed in the film, she actually wasn’t.

“I worked really hard to be a Catwoman. I learned capoeira. I did the work,” Berry said. “The disheartening part was I didn't direct it, I didn't produce it, nor did I write it. I was just the actress in it. But for all these years I have carried I think, you know, the weight of that film. And whatever success it had or didn't have, somehow it seemed like it was all my fault. But it really wasn't my fault. But I've been carrying it.”

As host Jimmy Kimmel pointed out, Berry posted a Tweet in late October after she started randomly getting a bunch of love from people who were discovering, or re-discovering, the film and praising her performance.

“So when that came up,” Berry said of the random Twitter praise. “It gave me a chance to sort of like… to stick it back.”

JIMMY KIMMEL: Apparently, "Catwoman" now-- people are watching "Catwoman" for first time in a long time and going like, hey, we really like "Catwoman."

HALLE BERRY: [LAUGHS]

JIMMY KIMMEL: So you tweeted, I'm seeing all the "Catwoman" love everybody. Where were you guys 17 years ago?

KYLIE MAR: Halle Berry stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday, where she reflected on finally getting some love for her 2004 film "Catwoman." It was a box office bomb and a critical failure. But Halle says that while pretty much everyone seemed disappointed in the film, she actually wasn't.

HALLE BERRY: I worked really hard to be a Catwoman. I learned capoeira. Like, I did the work.

The disheartening part was, I didn't direct it. I didn't produce it. Nor did I write it. I was just the actress in it.

JIMMY KIMMEL: Right.

HALLE BERRY: But for all these years I have carried, I think, the weight of that film.

KYLIE MAR: "Catwoman" was nominated for seven Razzie Awards, given to the year's worst films, and one for including Worst Picture and Worst Actress for Berry, who showed up to accept the award. And considering she already had a Best Actress Oscar from a few years prior, Berry has been a good sport about "Catwoman"'s failure. But it didn't stop her from feeling responsible for it.

HALLE BERRY: Whatever success it had or didn't have, somehow it seemed like it was all my fault. But it really wasn't my fault. But I've been carrying it. So when that came up, it gave me a chance to sort of, like--

JIMMY KIMMEL: To release that.

HALLE BERRY: To stick it back. [LAUGHS]

JIMMY KIMMEL: Yeah. So--

KYLIE MAR: And now with the upcoming "Flash" movie opening the door for actors to reprise past superhero roles, Kimmel had one very "im-purr-tant" question.

JIMMY KIMMEL: Are we going to see multiverse Catwoman, women, womans? I'm not sure.

HALLE BERRY: If I can direct it. [LAUGHS]

JIMMY KIMMEL: If you can direct it.

HALLE BERRY: [LAUGHS] Yes.

JIMMY KIMMEL: I think they're halfway through it. [LAUGHS]
