A Guide to Every TV Show in Michael Schur’s Comedy Universe: From ‘The Office’ to ‘The Good Place’
From The Office to A Man on the Inside, Michael Schur has created his own comedy universe.
Schur got his start as a writer on NBC's Saturday Night Live. He won his first Emmy as part of SNL's writing team in 2002 before leaving the sketch comedy series two years later. Schur then transitioned into producing — and writing — episodes of scripted TV shows such as The Comeback and The Office.
After The Office's resounding success, Schur created his own series titled Parks and Recreation. Sitcom fans continued to flock to Schur’s work, which paved the way for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place and more.
Schur has since cemented his presence in the sitcom space, which allowed him to direct and produce shows from fellow creators. This included Black Mirror, Single Parents, Master of None and Hacks. Eagle-eyed viewers might have even noticed Schur grace their screen. His most memorable role from his limited acting career was as Mose Schrute on The Office.
TV Shows That Were Saved After Cancellation
Not only has Schur built an audience, but he has formed close bonds with many of the actors starring on his shows. Schur is one of many executive producers known for reuniting with the same stars for multiple projects.
Ted Danson exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2024 about his seamless collaborative process with Schur.
“I do want to be purposeful about what [projects] I pick, which is what's so amazing about working with Michael Schur because what he writes about is important and it's purposeful,” the actor, who starred in The Good Place and A Man on the Inside, shared with Us. “There's intention behind what he writes. So yes, it can be funny, but it is fully human and I love [it]. I think that's what actors love most, is exploring the human condition. It doesn't mean you can't be silly and funny.”
