'Grey's Anatomy' Alum Jessica Capshaw Makes a Bold Confession to Past Costar
Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins on 'Grey's Anatomy'
Grey's Anatomy alum Jessica Capshaw is keeping it real. In the premiere episode of her new podcast with former Grey's costar Camilla Luddington, who currently plays Jo on the show, she revealed which of her former fellow cast members she didn't like at first. The answer? Luddington herself.
"What happened was that, when I first met you, I had maybe just had a baby and was coming back to work and I was feeling very insecure about pretty much everything," Capshaw said on their "Call It What It Is" podcast debut on Monday, June 3. "When you are insecure you’re sort of just not receptive to the world and you sort of doubt everyone and everything around you but mostly yourself."

"I think maybe that was why when I first met you I couldn’t see all of your inner glory," she added. "I was just focused on my own insecure feelings." She went on to say that she was rattled to show up to set and hear people "atwitter about some beautiful new woman coming to the show." Because she wasn't feeling her "sharpest and bestest ever," she saw Luddington as a threat.
Talk about a bombshell premiere episode!
Luckily, Luddington took the confession in stride. "I just came in looking gorgeous, minding my own business. And then I realized kind of quickly that you didn’t like me. Let’s call it the burger truck incident of 2012," she replied.
Luddington then explained what exactly what that meant. "There was a lovely burger truck [on set] and I thought, ‘I hadn’t seen a food truck yet on set.'" She snapped a photo of the truck and posted it on social media—and didn't realize Capshaw was enthusiastically eating her own food in the background.
"I’m sitting, minding my own business, the picture has been posted. Jessica comes in and she’s like, ‘Who posted the picture?’" Luddington continued. "I was new and terrified and this was Jessica Capshaw and I was like, ‘OK she full-on hates me.’"
Happily, things between the two worked out—mostly because later in the season, they were the only two cast members to show up to a planned dinner, and they wound up hitting it off.

Capshaw joined Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Arizona Robbins in the long-running show's 5th season and stayed with it through Season 14. Luddington, meantime, boarded the show in Season 9 and remains part of the cast to this day. Their podcast, which airs weekly on Mondays, will feature the real-life BFFs discussing all things life.
"Jessica and Camilla are opening up the friendship circle to YOU!" a description of the iHeartPodcast reads. "Someone’s Cheating? They got you on that. In-laws are in-lawing? Let’s get into it. Toxic friendships? Air it out. They’re on your side to help you with your concerns, talk about theirs and every once in a while bring on an awesome guest to get their take on the things that you bring them."
