'Grease' prequel 'Summer Loving' to reveal how Sandy met Danny
We've got chills, the Grease movies are multiplying. A Grease prequel called Summer Loving, in development at Paramount, will tell the story of how Sandy Olsson (played by Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 film) and Danny Zuko (originally played by John Travolta) first met and fell in love. As any Grease fan can tell you (with accompanying choreography), the awfully mature-looking teenagers met at the beach, the summer before their senior year. Little did they know that they would soon be attending the same high school, because somehow that… never came up? Perhaps the new movie, written by frequent Tim Burton collaborator John August, will shed some light on that.
Then again, the entire story of Sandy and Danny's courtship is told in the karaoke-favorite Grease number "Summer Nights," which would seem to render a prequel redundant… as many fans on Twitter are quick to point out.

On the plus side, some fans have some solid creative ideas for Summer Loving.
I'd be even more interested in this if they do a dual POV, like The Affair, where the same scenes happen with different memory biases & it becomes a meditation on how we romanticize relationships to fit into our narrative. But with songs! https://t.co/hzXvqL9epa

And naturally, the news has brought all of the Grease 2 stans out of the woodwork. If Summer Loving inspires half the passion that fans feel for that beloved box-office flop, it will be in good shape.

Paramount has not announced a release date or cast for Summer Loving, but presumably they'll be tapping Newton-John and Travolta for cameo roles… or maybe even cast them as Danny and Sandy's respective parents. Well-a, well-a, well-a, huh.
