Grammys 2016: Lady Gaga to perform David Bowie tribute

Lady Gaga will pay tribute to the life and music of David Bowie, who died Jan. 10, at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards at the Feb. 15 ceremony. The show announced the news Tuesday morning. Nile Rodgers, who collaborated with Bowie on 1983’s “Let’s Dance” and became lifelong friends, will act as musical director for the tribute.

“We had already booked Lady Gaga on this year’s show, but when David passed — almost in a single moment — we knew we had to change direction,” said executive producer of the GRAMMY Awards Ken Ehrlich in a statement. “We immediately spoke and agreed that she should be the one to honor David. She’s perfect for it. So I reached out to Nile and, before long, we were on our way to creating what we believe will not only make a great GRAMMY Moment, but one befitting of David.”

Ehrlich also told the telling the New York Times that the tribute will likely last three or four songs mid-broadcast and “is going to be a true homage to who David was, particularly musically, but not ignoring his influence on fashion and pop culture in a broader way.”

Lady Gaga joins previously announced performers including Adele, James Bay, Andra Day, Ellie Goulding, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, and The Weeknd.

She is also nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Til It Happens To You” with Diane Warren. They wrote the track for The Hunting Ground.
