While hosting the awards show on Sunday, Feb. 23, Kristen Bell was interrupted by her former The Good Place costar Ted Danson.
“This is important!” Danson, 77, insisted, before revealing fellow Good Place alum William Jackson Harper sitting next to him at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. “During the clip package — your name is William, right? — William said that you told him that he was your favorite costar.”
Harper, 45, chimed in, “Look man, I’m just telling him what you told me in Paris.”
Danson, who played Good Place architect Michael in the NBC comedy, took offense to that.
“What? Paris? Oh, come on! That was our city,” he said to Bell, 44.
Danson then questioned whether Harper — The Good Place’s ethical and indecisive Chidi — and Bell kissed. In an attempt to quell the fighting, Bell took a seat between Danson and Harper at their table.
“This is not a challenge,” she said to her costars.
Then, the score from Challengers started playing.
“Yes, it is,” Danson and Harper said in unison before appearing to go in for a kiss, a reference to the tennis drama starring Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Conner.
Bell then tried to turn the attention away from Danson and Harper’s moment of passion by introducing presenters Quinta Brunson and Andrew Scott.
Challengers follows a love triangle between an injured tennis star-turned-coach Tashi Donaldson (Zendaya), her tennis champ husband Art Donaldson (Faist) and his former doubles partner Patrick Zweig (O'Connor), who also dated Tashi before they got married. The final scene of the movie seems to imply that Art and Patrick’s love for one another trumped either of their loves for Tashi — or the game.
