Good deeds get Ellen DeGeneres out of speeding tickets
Ellen DeGeneres stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday and shared a couple of stories about getting out of speeding tickets by being a good person.
In one case, DeGeneres was pulled over for driving 35 in a 30 mph zone. On realizing who she was, the officer said, “You do a lot of good for the world,” then let her go without a ticket.
Another instance occurred last year in Montecito, Calif., shortly after the Thomas fire and subsequent mudslides that affected that community. DeGeneres has a home there and publicly praised the firefighters and other first responders for their tireless efforts to save the town. She had some of the firefighters on her show, Ellen, and made multiple donations to local firehouses. A longtime supporter of emergency services, DeGeneres recently donated $100,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
DeGeneres’s kind acts haven’t gone unnoticed. She said the officer who pulled her over in the Montecito area was so excited to meet her that he didn’t issue a ticket. The two took a selfie, and DeGeneres went on her way.
