‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner wastes no time filing for divorce from Theresa Nist after 3 months of marriage
Wasting no time.
“The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner, 72, has filed for divorce from his wife of three months, Theresa Nist, 70, The Post can confirm.
Turner filed the legal docs Friday in his hometown of Petersburg, Indiana.
In docs obtained by The Post, Turner listed the couple’s date of separation as April 12 and states “the marriage of the parties should be dissolved because of irretrievable breakdown.”
In Indiana, a divorce based on irretrievable breakdown of the marriage is known as a “no-fault” divorce and is not grounded upon wrong-doing or marital misconduct of the husband or wife.
News of the filing comes hours after the couple announced in a joint “Good Morning America” interview that they would be splitting after their televised wedding in January.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations … and looked closely to our living situations,” he said, noting that they’ve decided to “dissolve” their marriage.
“We just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart,” he said. “I still love this person. There’s no doubt in my mind.”
The pair held hands during the bombshell sit-down. Nist explained that they looked at homes in South Carolina and considered New Jersey to settle down, but nothing came of their initial plans.
“I still love you,” the two said to each other. They did have a prenup, consider themselves “best friends” and will stay in touch. Even more, they are still looking for love — just not with each other.
Fan favorite “Golden Bachelor” contestants Susan Noles — who officiated the Golden Wedding — and Kathy Swarts reacted to the divorce news Friday in their “Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour” podcast.
“I just feel heartbroken for them,” Swarts said in a clip of their conversation posted to Instagram. “It is sad. It is tragic. Please, people, be kind. These are our friends. The love didn’t work out, but they’re great people and our hearts are breaking for them.”
Noles added, “And don’t give up on the idea of meeting somebody on the show like that. There are so many people out there that are still in love. I truly believe those two fell in love.”
“They have their reasons, I’m sure, so be supportive. Everybody stay positive, and we wish them all the best,” she concluded.
Noles also responded to a fan’s comment asking why Turner and Nist broke up “so quick.”
“Neither one of them can leave their families,” she replied.
Turner and Nist were living separately, with Turner in Indiana and Nist in New Jersey.
Turner proposed to Nist over runner-up Leslie Fhima in Costa Rica on the finale, which aired in November.
