Glen Powell moves back to Austin. Here's 4 things we learned about the 'Hit Man' actor
Actor Glen Powell is a product of Texas, and he recently moved back to Austin from Los Angeles.
He's fresh off the new Netflix film "Hit Man," and in a press interview for the film with USA TODAY, Powell discussed coming home to the state capitol. Here's what we learned:
1. Breaking out of the Hollywood bubble
Powell said returning to Austin helped him break out of the Hollywood bubble, which can take a toll on mental health.
"When all you do is consume movies and entertainment, you could become a little self-aware and maybe derivative of yourself," Powell said. "Your personal life, there's no sort of freedom there, there's storytelling around that, and I feel like that's just not good for you on the long term."
2. Glen Powell's family still lives in Austin
Powell's parents live in Austin, and he said he always hoped to get "enough traction out in LA that (he) could return home" to them. Now, he hopes to spend as much time as possible with his family.
His parents made a recent appearance at the May premiere of "Hit Man" in Austin, holding up signs saying "stop trying to make Glen Powell happen" as a way to keep their son humble.
3. 'Better meat in Texas'
Texas is a great place for foodies, and Powell told USA TODAY that "there's better meat in Texas than there is in California, that's for sure."
Oh, and on a related note, his 1-year-old rescue dog is named Brisket.
4. Glen Powell inducted into Texas Film Hall of Fame
Powell earned a spot in the Texas Film Hall of Fame on May 15, further tying the actor to Texas and, more specifically, Austin. The induction actually came at the Austin premiere of "Hit Man" at the Paramount Theatre.
