'Georgia On My Mind': ESPN features recording by Lady A's Kelley in 2022 Masters commercial
A new rendition of the famous "Georgia On My Mind" has been released by Lady A's Charles Kelley ahead of this year's Masters Tournament. The song will be used in the official commercial airing nationwide leading up to the tournament on ESPN.
"Growing up in Augusta I have been going to the Masters for as long as I can remember, so this was a special full-circle moment for me," Kelley said in a release. "No one can sing this song like Ray Charles, but I hope I did him justice and I can't wait to get back home and experience the Masters in-person."
The song was originally released in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell but was made famous by Ray Charles when he recorded it in 1960. Kelley's version is available online in all music streaming services.
ESPN, which broadcasts live coverage of the tournament including the first and second rounds, has used versions of the song the past two years for their Masters Tournament commercial.
Last year, Mableton, Georgia-natives Chloe and Halle Bailey of the duo Chloe x Halle released their own rendition of the iconic song which was used to promote the 2021 tournament, while Georgia native India Arie's rendition was used for 2020 Masters promotion.
