Forged in Fire stars highlight Baxter Springs event
BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — More than dozens of people gathered in southeast Kansas to watch expert blade and master smiths show off their skills.
It was through the 4th annual Face Off at the Forge event that got underway at the Baxter Springs Community Center today.
Folks of all ages got the chance to meet former contestants of the History Channel TV show called “Forged in Fire” – like season 4 runner-up Paul Brown.
Aside from that- live demonstrations were a part of the event along with a knife and sword market and food.
Oklahoma resident Ray Kirk has been forging since 1989 and was also featured on Forged in Fire.
He says events like these help keep the history of the forge alive.
“I feel that in order for our arts craft to flourish we need to share it with those that are interested,” said Ray Kirk, Raker Knives and Steel Owner/ABS Master Smith.
Kirk is an American Blade Smith Society Master Smith, winning three 1st-place awards at the ABS World Championship.
