FIRST LOOK: The Last Of Us Season 2 Shows an Older Joel and Ellie

The first images from The Last of Us season 2 have dropped, and they reveal a more world-weary Joel and Ellie. A brain-eating plague will do that to you.

We see Joel with slightly more gray hair and face fuzz, and Ellie brandishing a shotgun. It’s the fairy lights in the back that really tell the story, however.

They look identical to the ones from the first section of the PlayStation video game The Last Of Us 2. That section is set in Jackson, a town located in Jackson County, Wyoming. Maria and Tommy (Joel’s brother) helped it grow into a thriving community for survivors.

At one point in the game, Ellie enters a dance hall hosted in a church draped with golden fairy lights. It seems like a utopia, especially compared to what the pair went through in Pittsburgh, but there’s a deep rift developing between Joel and Ellie, with distrust building based on the extremity of their actions in the previous season.

Check out the shots from the video game below for comparison. There’s no release date yet, but reports suggest a 2025 launch on Max.
