Felipa’s Flix: Who you Gonna Call? New Ghostbusters
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — This year, it seems like we are looking back in time in cinema to days gone by and inspiration from what is now “a long time ago.” Back in the Summer of 1984, there was a huge hit on Hollywood’s hands, called “Ghostbusters,” starring Saturday Night Live Greats Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, SNL writer the late, great Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Rick Moranis, and of course, Sigourney Weaver, fresh off of owning the “Alien” franchise.”
It was the story of some zany parapsychologists who began a ghost-catching business combining comedy, action, and horror for the ultimate Summer Blockbuster, now 40 years old.
When it’s time to go back in time and retool an incredible franchise… Who You Gonna Call? “Ghostbusters- Frozen Empire,” where the name of the game is to save the world as it’s about to enter the second Ice Age. In a nutshell, the Spengler Family returns to New York City and the old Manhattan Firehouse, where all new ghostbusting is taking place… but wait… an ancient artifact unleashes the ultimate force, (and clearly, it’s all about Forces this week… as we approach the 4th!) Now, Paul Rudd is the star and he’s joined by a new crew and the likes of the originals including Murray and Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson and the delightful Annie Potts.
The film is under two hours and where it starts incredibly action-packed, it kind of ends in a place you expect it to go… I love the nostalgia and the retro vibe, and newer younger audiences will enjoy the new younger characters, but it’s fun popcorn fare… and as for the Stay Puft Marshmallow? Well… you will have to see it for yourself…
