After the dust settled on the 2025 Golden Globes nominations, Gold Derby’s editors got together to dish all of our favorites from this year’s crop of movie and TV contenders. Which nominees surprised and delighted us the most? Who are we going to be rooting for during the Sunday, Jan. 5 ceremony? (Yes, these are the kinds of things that keep us all up at night.)
Our choices run the awards gamut, from first-time nomine.e Pamela Anderson (“The Last Showgirl”) to 14-time nominee Kate Winslet (“Lee”), from a creepy kidnapper who loves blueberry pie to a pair of TV political thrillers, and from drama star Sebastian Stan (“The Apprentice”) to … comedy star Sebastian Stan (“A Different Man”). SEEGolden Globes nominations: What happened inside the room?
The film nominations were led by “Emilia Pérez” at 10 overall bids, followed by “The Brutalist” at seven, “Conclave” at six, and “Anora” and “The Substance” at five apiece. The top three television contenders were “The Bear” at five bids, and “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shōgun” both at four. Netflix topped all other distributors with a whopping 36 nominations in all — 13 for motion pictures and 23 for television programs.
For the second year in a row, the Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category recognizes eight of the most talked-about films that debuted in theaters: “Alien: Romulus,” “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Gladiator 2,” “Inside Out 2,” “Twisters,” “Wicked,” and “The Wild Robot.”
