Farmer Mitchell Says, “I Knew She Was The One Before I Even Met Her”

Mitchell and Sydney give an update on their love story after the season 2 finale of ‘Farmer Wants A Wife.’

The second season of Farmer Wants A Wife has just come to a close on FOX and now we know just who has found a lasting love and which couples didn’t make it. In the second to last episode we saw Farmer Brandon choose Grace and Farmer Nathan choose Taylor. Farmer Ty walked away from both Megan and Melody but things were happier on Farmer Mitchell’s farm when he revealed that Sydney was the one for him.

The series finale brought the couples back to sit down with host Jennifer Nettles to give updates on their relationships. The night also saw the return of  many of the other women to rehash the drama of the season. We also learned where each of the relationships are now.

Southern Living was lucky enough to sit down with one of the couples six months after filming wrapped. We are happy to report that Mitchell and Sydney are still going strong, a half a year after the cameras stopped rolling and real life resumed. “she’s still in my arms and I don’t think that’s going to change,” Mitchell said with a huge smile as he hugged Sydney closer to him.

If you have watched this season from the very beginning, you would have seen the spark between these two right away. We even had an exclusive sneak peek of when they first met during episode one.

But, Mitchell let us in on a little secret. “Before I even met her I knew she was the one. Because I had 45 women and they were all like on a little baseball card picture and just when I saw her, I knew it was going to be her and it stayed that way the whole time.”

He continued, “The first time I saw her, she  was  getting ready for the filming that day. She was wearing this beautiful white dress and she hadn’t had her heels on yet. She was in camo Crocs. And I was like, ‘yep, I like that.’”

Sydney also felt a connection to her farmer right away. “ I think I really knew when I saw him in person, when he walked through the door. I saw the other guys and I knew. I was just so interested in him. I remember when he walked through the door he was just so confident. And he was just like ‘I’m here, I’m ready to do this.’ And I was like, yes this is what I need. I want that.”

The happy couple has had to keep their relationship a secret since there was a gap of time between when the production wrapped and the show aired on television. But, they tell us, their bond has only grown. “Actually the last day of filming, when he picked me, the next day we got in the car and drove to Arkansas and we went duck hunting. Spent a few weeks out there. Went back and forth and there’s nobody out there so we’d just hunt. It was really nice,” Sydney said.

Mitchell added, “ I’ve got a duck camp in Arkansas and I spend about 40 days out there a year with my three labs duck hunting and guiding so I really wanted to show her that part of my world.”

The Tennessee native said that while the hiding out had its challenges, he has kept a positive attitude. “It’s been tough to not be able to go out on dates. I’m a pretty romantic guy and I like to go out to nice dinners. Especially downtown Nashville. I have some favorite restaurants I like to frequent. It’s been hard to not take her to my favorite sushi or steak place that I love to go to. But you know what? That’s exciting. Something we can look forward to.”

Sydney has yet to relocate from her hometown in New Jersey but she said that she’s spent the majority of her time over the last six months with Mitchell. When we asked her how she was taking to life in the South, Sydney said, “I love everything about it. Luckily where I live, I do live in the woods and I have sheep so it was just very comfortable to me. And that was why especially the whole filming process was super not stressful to me because I was very comfortable in the environment that they put me in. But yeah I love being on his farm. It's just like a vacation every single day. It’s so beautiful. I can’t wait to fill it with sheep.”

“I am so fortunate to have her by my side. She’s definitely my constant, my steady and I’m so thankful to have her. She keeps me grounded and we’re best friends. We get along and enjoy each other’s company and I love her family and it just sounds like a true love story. America’s just lucky enough to capture it on TV,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell, who studied agriculture leadership at the University of Tennessee, is a first generation farmer. He didn’t grow up in it, but rather it’s the lifestyle he chose.

“This little cowboy is living his dream. I mean from the moment that I first got the farm all I knew was that this is live Heaven and the only thing that’s missing is a beautiful woman to share it with. Like truly. I have my truck, I have my dogs, I got everything I need besides a woman and now I have this beautiful girl sitting beside me and low and behold we have the same interest and passions and morals and everything all lined up the way that it should. "

"And there’s a rhyme and a reason and a season for everything and I’ve definitely been through different ones and I think Sydney has but we’re so thankful that we’re at this point in our life now where we can share this relationship with everybody and that filming is over and we can enjoy this beautiful relationship that we have.”
