Fans Think They Know the Reason for Taylor Swift's 'Lethal' Surprise Song Mashup in Cardiff: 'This Is Iconic'

Taylor Swift made her latest Eras Tour stop in Cardiff, Wales—and according to her fans, she didn't come to play.

The "Fortnight" songstress pulled out a couple of her shadiest songs during the acoustic set at the concert on Tuesday, June 18, which happened to be just one day after Scooter Braun announced his retirement from music management.

Swift, 34, is known to have "Bad Blood" with Braun, 43, who was sold the original masters of Swift's first six albums in 2019, igniting a feud that would later cause the 14-time Grammy winner to re-record all of her previous albums.

As we now know, Swift has already released four of those albums, retitling them as "Taylor's Version," and even including more songs that didn't make the initial records, now known as "vault tracks."

But even despite the success of her re-recorded albums, fans think Swift may have still had "Karma" on the brain during Tuesday's show.

While coming out onstage during the acoustic set of the concert, Swift mashed together two diss tracks: "I Forgot That You Existed" and "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things"—a "lethal" combination that fans believe may have been directed at Braun. (The date of Tuesday's concert also happened to fall on Braun's birthday.)

Swifties immediately took to the internet to share their theories about the singer's surprise song mashup and how they believed it was a not-so-subtle dig at Braun.

""THE DAY AFTER ?? RETIRED THIS IS ICONICCCC," one fan exclaimed, while another person said that Swift was "really sending a message with this one."

"LETHAL THE SHADE IM SAT" someone else tweeted.

One Swiftie called Tuesday night's surprise mashup a "Scooter tribute," and someone else quipped, "Mashup (shady version)."

Another fan online pointed out that "I Forgot That You Existed" is one of the first songs Swift owned, as her 2019 album Lover was recorded after her departure from her old record label. "I Forgot That You Existed" is Track 1 on that album.

"[O]h taylor swift the woman that you are," that same fan applauded.
