‘The Fall Guy’ trailer: Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt team up for rollicking action comedy [Watch]
His job is stunt.
For his first role following “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling will star as a stuntman on the search for a pampered movie star gone missing in the action comedy “The Fall Guy.” On Thursday, Universal debuted the first trailer for the film, which also stars Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the lost star.

“He’s done action, he’s done romance, he’s done comedy, but this movie allowed him to do all of it,” “The Fall Guy” director David Leitch told Vanity Fair about Gosling. “The stunt crews that [Gosling] has worked with and that I’ve come up with, we’re not jaded. We’re not like, ‘Oh, we don’t get the credit…’ We love making movies. He just wanted to bring a stuntman like that to life, and he wanted to find a real motivation for this character in the love story.”
Based loosely on the ‘80s television series starring Lee Majors, “The Fall Guy” is about a stuntman named Colt Seavers (Gosling) who winds up working on a blockbuster science-fiction project directed by Jody, his ex-girlfriend (played by Blunt).
Here’s the official synopsis:
While the film’s ruthless producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham; Ted Lasso), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Leitch (“Bullett Train,” “Atomic Blonde”) is the director here. The film’s script was written by Drew Pearce, the screenwriter behind “Iron Man 3.” That film was directed by Shane Black, who directed Gosling in the criminally underrated action comedy “The Nice Guys” with Russell Crowe. Fans of the 2016 film will no doubt find Gosling’s spry performance similarly appealing – at least in trailer form.
“The Fall Guy” is out in theaters on March 1, 2024. Gosling is among the expected Best Supporting Actor nominees for his role in “Barbie.” The 2024 Oscars take place on March 10, 2024. It should be a good month for the actor.
