El Chapo's wife Emma Coronel Aispuro joining reality show 'Cartel Crew'
Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of infamous drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, will appear on Season 2 of Cartel Crew. VH1 confirmed the news to Yahoo Entertainment days after she was photographed with Michael Blanco, the youngest son of "Cocaine Godmother" Griselda Blanco, who stars on the show.
Cartel Crew follows descendants of those involved in the Cartel as they navigate adulthood and examines the effects the legacy has had on their upbringing. Aispuro will open up about life after her husband's arrest and her upcoming business venture, Yahoo Entertainment has learned. The 30-year-old former teenage beauty queen will make several appearances on the docuseries.
A teaser trailer released Monday shows Blanco speeding up to Aispuro's yacht where she's flanked by security — and some champagne. It's the first time Aispuro, who has a journalism degree in Culiacan, has starred on a television docuseries.
Aispuro has been married to Guzmán, 32 years her senior, since 2007. She was a fixture at her husband's trial in the United States, where her courthouse appearances were just as closely watched as her husband's demeanor. Guzmán, the notorious leader of the Sinaloa cartel, was found guilty of all 10 federal criminal counts against him and was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year. Aispuro was reclusive until Guzmán's final arrest in 2016, giving a series of interviews out of concern that her husband was being mistreated by Mexican police. She told the Los Angeles Times in 2016 she would "follow to wherever he is."
"I am in love with him. He is the father of my children," she explained. Aispuro gave birth to twin girls, Emali and Maria Joaquina, in 2011. It’s unclear if her daughters will appear on the show.
Cartel Crew airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on VH1. Aispuro will make her reality show debut on Nov. 18.
