Drew Barrymore says Adam Sandler is 'one of the biggest supporters' of her talk show: 'He's such an anchor for me'
The host said her longtime friend and "Wedding Singer" costar's belief in the talk show was "really profound to me."
Drew Barrymore is shouting out one of her talk show’s biggest fans: Adam Sandler.
While speaking at The Paley Center’s An Evening With Drew Barrymore on Monday, the actress was asked if she’s still in contact with any of her film costars.
“I was just at Adam Sandler's house,” Barrymore said. “Do you know who is one of the biggest supporters of this gosh darn show? Adam.”

The host revealed that Sandler often sends her pictures of himself tuning into the show. “The frame [of the photo] was always: the TV here, and his feet here,” she recalled, turning her back to the audience and putting her feet up toward an imaginary television.
Sandler and Barrymore, who have been friends for decades, have shared the screen in 1998’s The Wedding Singer, 2004’s 50 First Dates, and 2014’s Blended. Her friend's unwavering support for The Drew Barrymore Show — especially during its early years — was exactly the confidence boost that she needed to keep moving forward.
“His belief in this was really profound to me, because there was a part of me thinking like, ‘Am I going away from something that has been so good to me, or maybe where I should belong or be?’” Barrymore asked. “And so when he would send me that, and be so encouraging all the time — he did the pilot, the sales tape; I flew up to Boston to interview him!”
She noted that her Charlie’s Angels costar and friend, Cameron Diaz, similarly made an appearance with Lucy Liu during the series’ 2020 premiere.

“These are my friends. And friends show up for each other. And [Sandler] doing that made me feel like you're doing the right thing, you're doing the right thing,” Barrymore said. “And I needed that from someone like him, because he's such an anchor for me professionally and personally.”
Sandler has since returned to the show over the years, including a 2022 segment that saw him hitch a ride in Barrymore’s Drewber and reflect on The Wedding Singer.
“She came in, we jammed on a movie idea,” he recalled at the time. “We got together, we shot it, we had the best time ever.”
