Drake, J. Cole Unleash Reference-Heavy “First Person Shooter” Video
Drake and J. Cole have issued the music video for their hit single, “First Person Shooter.” On Wednesday (Nov. 15), the duo dropped off the epic Gibson Hazard-directed visuals jam-packed with pop culture references.
The video begins with an appearance from The Office’s gentle giant, Brian Baumgartner, as he answers a call from “The CEO.” After he hangs up and resumes playing his first-person shooter video game, the camera pans to a broom closet where the audience finds Cole and Drizzy. The emcees are in the middle of a heated table tennis match-up, which transforms into a championship exhibition with the world watching. Drake lands the final volley as the camera shifts to an aerial view.
The camera then picks up from inside a rook chess piece being knocked over by the North Carolina rhymer. Drizzy and Cole then reenact fútbol superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic Louis Vuitton picture. From there, the duo poses for a statistical breakdown ahead of an apparent boxing bout.
J. Cole and Drake’s competitive edge continues into the next scene as they square off in a three-point shooting contest. Both men can be seen rocking Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man costumes as they drain threes from “way downtown”—shots that call for Mike Breen’s iconic “BANG!” reaction. The pair even complete the scene directly referencing the forever-timeless Spider-Man meme.
Hazard’s video then transforms as Drake takes centerstage. Drizzy boards a train with a slew of dogs en route to Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. When he arrives, the artist stands atop of the CN Tower where he pays homage to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” Aubrey even busts out his best Jackson impression as the ground illuminates with each step he takes. The music video culminates with a statue of Drake being unveiled, towering his hometown.
Drake and J. Cole’s explosive new video arrives on the heels of the duo announcing their joint tour. The Her Loss rapper took to social media to announce the It’s All A Blur—Big As The What? Tour, which will run through North America next year.
According to Drake Related, the tour will be a 22-date trek presented by Cash App and Visa with production from Live Nation. Of the 22 dates, 18 of the shows will feature an appearance from Cole.
The pair will kick off the tour on Thursday (Jan. 18) at the Ball Arena in Denver, CO, with two back-to-back shows. The “Jodeci” duo will then hit major cities across the States, including New Orleans, Memphis, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, NY, and more. Dreamville’s boss will make his last appearance at Lexington, KY’s Rupp Arena on Sunday (Mar. 10).
