‘Doctor Who’ Star Ncuti Gatwa and Russell T Davies Tease Season 2 Spoilers, ‘Epic Danger and Epic Growth’ As Well As ‘Growing Danger’
Allons-y! The stars of Disney+’s “Doctor Who,” Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, have jumped off the TARDIS at Comic-Con for their first time, ever.
“[I’m] throwing them into the lion’s den,” showrunner, executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said of the convention’s Hall H. “You’re on your own kids! It’s big, it’s 6000 people. But it’s wonderful. It’s a hall full of love, frankly. The joy and the love and the optimism and the energy, you’ll be buzzing off it for ages.”

The trio joined the Variety Studio presented by Google TV to discuss the new cast members, what former doctor they’d love to have back, and more.
Gatwa, who portrays the 15th Doctor in the franchise, stars alongside Gibson, who plays his time-traveling partner, Ruby Sunday, in the reboot series.
He said, while he is still growing into the character of The Doctor, he found his footing in the first season and had the time of his life. Being able to portray the iconic time jumper, Gatwa said, has felt like a “pinch me moment.”
“Season Two felt like a chance to flex the muscles properly,” Gatwa said. “So exciting. You’re fueled by the writing and by each new story, each new monster, each new addition into our world, there’s many in Season Two. It’s just the fun of the show. I think that just drives you growing into the character.”
Gibson said shooting the fourth episode of the upcoming season was one of her favorites: “That [episode] was the first one I filmed and the biggest challenge. So I was so proud of how it came out.”
Varada Sethu has joined the cast for the second season as an additional companion alongside Ruby Sunday. Gatwa said the “Andor” actor has brought “such incredible energy to the TARDIS and is just a joy to work with.”
“I mean, the more the merrier,” Gibson said of her new co-companion. “You know, friendships are better with three.”
“We see The Doctor and Ruby in a new light, and with a new friend,” Davies said of Sethu. “Like you’re saying, different friends bring out different aspects of you.”
As for who the cast and crew hope to bring back to the series (after already bringing back former Doctor David Tennant), they say they would love to have 11th Doctor Matt Smith back on the show.
For the new season, Gatwa said The Doctor and his two companions have “epic danger and epic growth,” as well as “growing danger” to look forward to.
