“The Diplomat” Season 2 Teaser Answers Burning Question About Netflix's Political Thriller — Watch
The Emmy-nominated series returns to Netflix this Halloween with high treason and high tea
Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell are back on for season 2 of The Diplomat.
The Emmy-nominated Netflix political thriller series — about US Ambassador to the United Kingdom Kate Wyler (Russell) and her husband, fellow career diplomat Hal Wyler (Sewell) as they navigate their marriage while trying to prevent a global war — returns for an all-new installment, with all episodes dropping globally on the streaming platform this Halloween, Oct. 31.
A preview for the season and First Look photos dropped on Thursday, Sept. 5, teasing an answer to one of the biggest questions fans may have had at the end of the first season.
The clip begins with a motorcade escorting the Wylers to a black-tie affair.
Hal helps Kate out of their chauffeured car and the two are photographed arm-in-arm as they walk the red carpet leading to the evening event. They give each other a quick semi-assuring glance before entering, but the tone changes as a new character emerges — Vice President Grace Penn, played by Oscar winner Allison Janney.
Not much else is revealed in the teaser, but seeing as the season 1 finale ended with a threat of an explosion that would have left Hal for dead, fans will be relieved to see he's made it.
Netflix also dropped the official summary for the season, along with a tagline teasing: "The call is coming from inside the house."
"A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world (Russell)," reads the synopsis. "Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the UK didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government."
"As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved," it continues. "She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Janney).
