‘How to Die Alone’ Canceled After Single Season at Hulu
Hulu has canceled its comedy series How to Die Alone after one season.
The news comes about 4 1/2 months after the series, created by and starring Natasha Rothwell, wrapped its eight-episode season on the streamer. The show was produced by Onyx Collective, which like Hulu is part of Disney.

How to Die Alone stars Rothwell as a “a broke, fat, Black JFK Airport employee who’s never been in love and forgotten how to dream, until an accidental brush with death catapults her on a journey to finally take flight and start living by any means necessary.” Conrad Ricamora, Jocko Sims and KeiLyn Durrel Jones also star.
Rothwell indicated in an Instagram post that she’ll try to find a new home for the show, writing, “This is hard to comprehend. … My heart is aches for the incredible cast, crew and writers who gave their all to tell this story. I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity, and appreciate all of the love and support given to me and the show. Now, my prayer is that this news will be but a comma in the HTDA story, not a period. Onward.”
The series was critically acclaimed, with The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han calling it “nothing if not a great hang — warm, funny and occasionally even life-affirming.”
Rothwell and Vera Santamaria served as co-showrunners on How to Die Alone and executive produced with Desiree Akhavan and Jude Weng.
Variety first reported the news.
